Summary: If Koichi'd managed to do a bit more damage to Jotaro in the All Star Battle League, he would have won the match and proceeded to the finals.
Notes: And then people still wouldn't have used him very much. Poor thing.
Koichi is intensely aware of the ticking down of the clock. The younger Jotaro has the advantage right now, and if it goes to time, he’ll win, but it’s close. Koichi can turn it around.
It’s not the most intense fight he’s ever had, he’s not fighting for his life because Jotaro would never kill him, but it’s one of the closest.
Just before the timer hits zero, Koichi lets loose one last, desperate attack with Echoes, and Jotaro falls and does not rise. He hears ‘KO!’ over the blood pounding in his ears.
He… he won. He beat Jotaro and advanced to the finals of the league. He won!
Koichi pumps his fist, then sways and falls over, blacking out immediately.
When he comes to, Josuke is hovering over him. He lights up when he sees Koichi’s awake. “You did great! But maybe you shouldn’t cut it so close next time.”
“Congrats, man,” Okuyasu says from somewhere to the side. Koichi sits up to turn to him and Rohan.
“As I expected of you,” says Rohan. He’s still bitter about losing immediately to Buccellati after advancing past the preliminaries, but at least he isn’t taking it out on Koichi.
“Thanks, everyone. Next time I’ll try to win more decisively.” Koichi rubs his head, though he knows Josuke has healed him fully. “Did any of you see who won the other semifinal match? Am I going against Caesar or Dio?”
The door opens. “I, Dio, was victorious.”
While the others back off in fear, Koichi scrambles to his feet, though as far as height goes it doesn’t give him much against Dio. Still, it makes him less of a sitting duck should Dio choose to attack. “Congratulations.”
Dio inclines his head to show that he heard, though he does not thank Koichi for it. “I expected my final opponent to be a Joestar. This comes as a surprise and a disappointment. What was your name, again?”
“Koichi Hirose.” He says it levelly. “If your opponent can defeat Jotaro, wouldn’t it not matter what family they come from? They’re bound to put up a good fight.”
“I suppose. Still, it lacks the excitement of the final battle I was looking for. Try not to go down too quickly, Koichi Hirose.” He turns on his heel and leaves.
Koichi lets out a breath, and the others crowd back in around him. “Man that guy’s scary!” says Okuyasu. “What’s his deal?”
“Vampire. Giorno’s dad, defeated by Jotaro in Egypt… that’s all I really know.” Koichi frowns. “I’d like to have more information about my opponent, but I guess it doesn’t matter. I’ll win anyway.”
“That’s quite confident for someone who barely made it to the finals,” says Rohan.
“Jotaro beat him once and I beat Jotaro. It just makes sense that I would win.” Koichi sits down again. “Well, second’s not a bad position either. Even if I’d lost back there, I still would’ve been proud I made it this far.”
Still, he can’t wait to prove himself. Maybe then people will use him for online matches.
