Summary: Ver and her important people.
Notes: Polyamory is fun to write.
Laurentia is more calloused than Ver’s hands, sometimes. She laughs at the cruelest jokes and smiles when she takes down an enemy, even an enemy only made by happenstance. She is difficult to understand, and Ver doesn’t claim to get her completely.
But Laurentia is the first to come to her defense, whether it’s in battle or in a clothing store. It’s Laurentia who patches her up after fights and warns her of how cross she’ll be if Ver loses anything important. To Laurentia, Ver is important, dear to her heart. Ver feels similarly about her and all her peculiarities.
Ver knows Vendetto’s birth name, but would never repeat it to anyone else. He’s left that point of his life behind, and she respects that. He’s come from a place of hardship and made himself strong, and she respects that too.
Vendetto is more likely than Laurentia to be able to judge when Ver needs to fight her own battles for the sake of her pride, and let her take them on herself without interference. She’s grateful for that, and in return backs him up when he asks for it or desperately needs it to survive and no other time.
Wadanohara and Ver have long since patched up after the misunderstanding that was the Tosatsu invasion of her sea. Ver’s never had any ill will towards her, and Wadanohara, gentle and loving as she is, understood that the entire time they were fighting each other.
Wadanohara worries for her health on her jobs, when she can’t be there to protect her. She enchants things, mostly clothes since Ver’s not the type for jewelry, to help keep her safe in battle. Ver’s grateful, somewhat for the help but mostly just for the love imbued along with the spells, love she returns.
Samekichi is essential to Wadanohara’s happiness, and anyone who Wadanohara cares about so much, Ver’s inclined to be friendly to. Ver believed in his return as much as she could, and when he finally did come back and she dropped by, she greeted him with a slap on the shoulder and a teasing comment that it took him long enough.
Just because Samekichi and Ver look out for each other doesn’t mean she’s trying to unseat Wadanohara as queen of his heart, that’d be weird and beyond impossible. He’s just someone she wants to stick around, safe, secure and happy.
Fukami’s always been the jealous type, and Ver’s lucky that Samekichi wore him down some first, even when he wasn’t there, before the topic of her kissing Wadanohara sometimes came up. She’s fought Fukami before, it wasn’t very fun.
Nowadays, she doesn’t know if he still resents sharing and how much, but she knows that Fukami will treat her politely, or as politely as Fukami gets. Fukami’s important to Wadanohara too, so Ver sharpens her claws whenever anyone mentions takoyaki, and they usually shut up before it comes to a fight. Fukami looks minorly grateful at this. It’s a start.
Sometimes they’re all tired, from a long trip to the sea or from magic practice or from chasing octopi around trying to get them to say their name right, and they’ll collapse together on the couch in a tangle of arms, legs, and tentacles.
When that happens, it doesn’t really matter if Ver’s got her head resting against Laurentia’s arm, on Vendetto’s knee, in Wadanohara’s lap, across Samekichi’s chest, or on Fukami’s shoulder. It doesn’t matter where the rest of her is, either, unless she’s squishing somebody and they’re complaining about it. Otherwise, they’re all warm and they’re all people she feels comfortable with.
What else could she ask for?
