Summary: Kcalb doesn’t make Lobco feel small, even though she knows how much she overpowers her.
Notes: A request fic from Emely. RP-based, which is where the pairing comes from. Still not as weird as Ivlis/Yonaka, maybe?
Your special person is someone who makes you feel and act differently than any other person in the world, Cherryblod once explained to Lobco, when she was younger. At the time, she’d thought that when he said that it was because of Doloz that he was so nice, he was just being silly. Cherryblod was nice to everybody. Even so, she believed what he said, just like she believed every piece of advice her parents gave her.
Now that she knows about his history, that just lends even more strength to his words.
Lobco is a jittery person, prone to nervousness and bouts of insecurity. Even with her own witch… actually, especially with Chlomaki, she can feel tiny and useless. Being in a castle full of gods, devils, and other powerful people hasn’t changed that, except with Kcalb.
Kcalb doesn’t make Lobco feel small, even though she knows how much she overpowers her. Lobco’s at ease around her instead. Kcalb is a good listener, and Lobco doesn’t deliberate on her words in conversation with her or worry over what she’ll think. She’s kind and strong, in many more ways than just physically.
She makes Lobco feel differently than anyone else, and so she’s Lobco’s special person, but…
Kcalb’s special person is Etihw. It’s obvious from the way she acts around them. No one else flusters her that way. She can be calm around anyone else, Ivlis excluded for other reasons, but with Etihw she’s always blushing and tripping over her sentences. Etihw is first on her mind almost at all times, and as much as they seem to bother her, they make her happy in equal parts.
Lobco can’t compete with a god Kcalb’s known for longer than Lobco’s been alive. Even if she could, why would she? Kcalb’s clearly happy with them.
She has to get over this, but…
“Are you okay, Lobco?”
Lobco jolts upright when Kcalb comes to sit next to her. She had been holding her head in her hands with her elbows on the table in front of her. “I-I’m fine!”
“Are you sure?” asks Kcalb, head tilted. “You didn’t look fine.”
If only she wasn’t so obvious… “Really, I’m alright! You don’t need to worry about me.”
Kcalb still looks unsure. Kcalb is always concerned for other people. With Etihw she doesn’t show it as easily, but everyone else, she’ll be a little more honest with.
“You would tell me if something was bothering you, right?” asks Kcalb. Lobco doesn’t like lying to her, and doesn’t immediately answer, making Kcalb frown. “What’s wrong?”
“Well… Um…” Lobco really doesn’t want to say anything about her crush and make Kcalb feel bad for not returning it, but she doesn’t have a good cover story in mind. She evades. “It’s kind of a sensitive topic…”
“Oh.” Kcalb falls silent for a moment, and Lobco can tell by the crestfallen look on her face that this was the wrong response. “I guess I’ll go.”
“No- Wait-” When Kcalb stands up, Lobco clings onto her jacket to keep her from going. “I’m sorry. I want to tell you, but I’m just, afraid. That you’ll be mad.”
“I won’t be mad,” says Kcalb. She brushes Lobco’s fingers on her coat with her own; Lobco’s face goes bright red. “Promise.”
“...I like you.” Lobco stares at the floor as she releases Kcalb’s jacket.
“Oh,” says Kcalb, and then, “Oh!” a moment later when she understands. “Lobco, I… You are... L-look at me?”
Lobco does, reluctantly. Kcalb is bright red.
“You have terrible taste in women,” says Kcalb, and as Lobco starts to deny it, she smiles and adds, “but I’m happy.”
Does… that mean…?
“L-Lobco, I really like you too.”
Lobco lets out a squeak and buries her blushing face in her hands again. Is she dreaming? She’s definitely dreaming, and she pinches her face just before Kcalb hugs her tightly.
...It hurt, so maybe it’s okay to hug her back.
