Summary: Reficul takes Sin out to see other worlds.
Notes: Secret Santa fic.
Some people, who don’t understand Reficul and Sin’s relationship, are confused about it. They don’t question it aloud, of course, because Reficul is terrifying to them and even Sin can be intimidating, in her own way. But Sin knows they wonder how Reficul can be married and have a lover that Sin knows about.
Sin laughs at this. Just because Reficul has a lover doesn’t mean she loves Sin any less. It’s just a different kind of love from what Reficul and Lzet have.
Some people are afraid of Reficul, but to Sin, she’s never been anything but herself, from the moment that she fell and Sin found her lying in a heap on the ground, wings all akimbo. She nursed the fallen angel back to health, and since then Sin has never felt a reason to fear her any more than she did at that first moment.
Reficul could never marry someone who was afraid of her. That’s not the only reason she married Sin, by far, but it’s an important one.
Reficul has underlings to take care of her duties for her, so Sin doesn’t bother to try to convince her to work, even though she’s probably the only one who could manage it. As long as the work gets done, does it matter who ends up doing it?
(Lzet would say otherwise, and she feels bad for him. Lzet should work less, maybe, and she scolds Mors for giving him a hard time.)
When Reficul finds a beautiful spot on her strolls, she inevitably returns to her castle and invites Sin there, and Sin inevitably accepts. Marriages are kept healthier if they’re treated like they’re still courting, still finding new places to go on dates.
“There’s a lovely view of the sunset on Apple Isle,” Reficul explains, holding Sin’s hand as they walk and/or slither through the portal she’s opened. “I asked the locals about it.”
“Did you ask politely?” Sin asks, knowing what Reficul’s version of ‘politely asking’ is. It’s one of those things that Sin has spoken to her about, but she keeps forgetting.
“Yes… a salmon shark. He was quite rude to me in return.” Reficul frowns briefly. “Politeness is wasted on some people.”
Sin makes a mental note to keep an eye out for angry sharks while they walk the paths of the island. There are plenty of apples here, almost more than the park when Reficul took her to visit Kcalb and Etihw’s world.
The edge of the island has a large apple tree and a gorgeous view of the setting sun, far more lovely than the sunset in their own world. “It’s wonderful,” Sin says.
Reficul just smiles a little more and leans in for a gentle and brief kiss. When they’re done, she asks, “...Sin, do you like our world?”
“Where did that come from?” Sin asks, head tilted.
“You’re a gentle soul, and the more beautiful a world is the more you seem to enjoy visiting. Our world doesn’t seem to suit you,” Reficul says.
“I suppose it doesn’t.” Before Reficul can say another word, Sin adds, “But you suit me, wherever you are. None of these worlds would mean anything to me without you there.”
“You always know just what to say.”
