Summary: Chelan reflects a little on love.
Notes: Not satisfied with this but: NaNo. Word count.

Love, Chelan thinks, is hard to explain, even in the words of a thousand poets, and that is probably because it is different between people, often different even inside the same person. She’s seen love happen a few times: unabashedly, unashamedly love, without any doubt or question, and never has it been the same.

For example:

Yosafire’s love for Froze is energetic, effusive, ever-present. It does not define her - she would still be Yosafire without Froze - but it pervades her life, so much so that no one could possibly miss sight of it without trying to be as dense as possible. Yosafire tells her the stories, sometimes, while snuggled up close to Froze’s side.

Froze’s love for Yosafire is quieter, more subtle, but equally as true. It shows in her endless patience for Yosafire and Yosafire alone: no one else could get away with half of her antics. It shows in Froze’s concern for her, and the way she tries to help her improve herself even when all seems hopeless.

Etihw and Kcalb, well, there’s no doubt that they’re tied by love more closely than anyone else in the garden. They understand each other without words, which is why Kcalb nearly forgoes words altogether. Etihw teases, but knows exactly when they’ve gone too far, and Kcalb is always first on the mind that has a hundred other people to worry about. Everyone knows Kcalb can only forget his troubles around Etihw.

Her own love for Dialo... is hard for even her to describe, but if she were forced to label it with words, she would say that Dialo completes her. Dialo fills out the empty parts of her life where she needs help, or simply needs someone who understands. No one else can read her like Dialo can, and she’s never sure if that’s because they’re in love or if they fell in love because they can comprehend each other so well.

And Dialo, saying why and how Dialo loves her would be a bit egotistical, wouldn’t it? That’s how it seems to her, anyway. Dialo tells her every day that she adores her, and that means more to Chelan than any possible ‘why’.

Chelan loves Dialo. She loves all her friends, each in a different way: they bring even more joy to her life and fill it with excitement. She loves Macarona for her kindness, Rawberry for her boldness, Yosafire for her sincerity, and Froze for her responsibility. She loves Etihw and Kcalb for taking such good care of them, and for being able to be kind to others even after all that’s happened. She loves her neighbors, and her home, and she loves all of these in different ways, and all from the bottom of her heart.

So it’s no wonder why no one can agree on what love is like, because love is never completely the same, not once.

Though, she’s never been the best at words in the first place, so who is she to say?
