Notes: This wasn't going to be a series but now it is?

Haruno enters the office and says, “Someone’s here to talk about the Port Mafia. Definitely European, but I don’t know anything else about them.”

The members of the detective agency look at each other. Most of them look at Dazai, who shrugs and looks at Kunikida.

“I’ll go,” Kunikida says. “Tanizaki, you come along. The rest of you - stay alert.”

“Yes sir.” Tanizaki can’t quite hide the worry from his eyes as he follows Kunikida into the lobby.

There are four people there, all in suits. Three are standing - a girl no older than sixteen and a man a little younger than Tanizaki towards the door, and another, slightly older teenager who’s attempting to conceal a gun beneath his suit jacket standing near the couch. Another man who’s no older than Tanizaki is sitting on the couch, hands folded.

That one’s definitely the leader. Even without the placing, it’s the aura of quiet confidence he projects that gives it away.

“Pleased to meet you,” he says. “Detective.”

Kunikida sits across from him, still tense. His hand rests on his notebook. “And you would be…?”

“Giorno Giovanna. I’m traveling from Italy for family matters.” Giorno speaks calmly, as if he wasn’t the only person in the room on edge. “While I was attending a funeral, I was being observed by a member of the Port Mafia. Afterwards, he and one of my subordinates got into a squabble. While no one was killed or even seriously injured-”

The woman shifts, looking cross.

“-it’s important for Passione to keep from making too many enemies. I am here for the rest of the weekend, after all.”

Passione’s a name that’s vaguely familiar to Tanizaki. Where has he heard it before, some report or another…

“The Italian mafia?” he blurts out.

Giorno nods.

“And you’ve come to a completely legal detective agency that takes out criminals like you to deal with your underworld problems because?” Kunikida asks, eyes narrowed.

Giorno remains completely calm. “We’ve been meaning to speak with the leadership of the Port Mafia, but while we’ve found many places that they’ve been in operation, we haven’t located any members themselves. We were hoping you could point us in the right direction.” A smile quirks up on his lips. “Besides, we’ve done nothing wrong on Japanese soil, and you certainly don’t have the ability to operate across continents. It would only be to your benefit if two criminal organizations damaged each other, and it might come to that.”

“He’s right, you know!” says Dazai, poking his head out from the doorway. “It’s a good idea for us, since we can’t touch them anyway.”

“Dazai,” Tanizaki says tiredly, as Kunikida glares in Dazai’s direction, “if you wanted to participate, you didn’t have to eavesdrop.”

The woman in the back perks up. “Dazai? The guy fancy hat has a complex about?”

“Oh. You fought Chuuya.” Dazai doesn’t seem terribly surprised by the ‘complex’ comment, but he is quick to move on. “We can point you towards some of their bases of operations, sure. They can’t all be on holiday.”

Kunikida’s glare intensifies. “I haven’t agreed to this-”

“Thank you, Dazai,” Giorno says, smiling. “It’s a pleasure doing business with you.”

“Likewise,” says Dazai. “The places you ought to look are…”

After the Passione members are gone, Tanizaki turns back to Dazai. “Do you think they’ll be alright? They can’t have brought that many members for family matters, and if they’re not all Ability users-”

“They’ll be fine,” Dazai says, waving his hand dismissively. “I’d be more concerned about the Port Mafia.”

“They have home territory advantage and they’re preparing for a fight,” says Kunikida. “What makes you think Passione has the upper hand?”

“Organized crime likes to keep tabs on organized crime, even if it’s distant,” Dazai says. “Tell me, Kunikida, what’s my weakness?”

“You only nullify Abilities,” Kunikida says. “If I were to punch you, or shoot you with an ordinary gun, your Ability would be useless.”

“What if I were able to nullify your fist or your ordinary gun, too?”

“...You’d be absolutely insufferable.”

And invincible, Tanizaki thinks, staring at the doorway in horror. He almost feels bad for the Port Mafia now.

Almost.
