Summary: Chuuya goes on a business trip, and Atsushi leaves messages.
Notes: This chapter is SFW because I like my SFW-only reviewer.

Chuuya has a trip.

“Business trip,” he says, grumbling. “I’ll be gone for a week.”

Atsushi nods. These things happen when you’re an important person in any organization, not just the Port Mafia. “Can I call you while you’re gone?”

A shake of Chuuya’s head. “I won’t even be bringing my non-mafia cell phone. If you gave me a call while I was in the middle of doing something, or if somebody was watching my hotel room, it’d be bad.”

He understands. It sucks, but he understands. “I’ll leave you messages everyday,” he says. “So you can listen to them when you get back.”

That gets a smile out of Chuuya. “Looking forward to it.”

Hello, Chuuya-san, it’s Atsushi. But you probably already knew that from my voice, ahaha…

I miss you. You haven’t been gone for more than half a day and I miss you already. Does that make me sound clingy? I-I’m sorry.

...I just really like talking to you. Even when we’re not going out, or doing anything, it’s nice just to talk. It feels weird knowing I can’t hear your voice for another week. Well, I guess I can still hear your answering machine message? So that’s something.

I’ll keep you updated if anything interesting happens. Today Kenji-kun got so hungry that he ate all of Ranpo-san’s candy stash. Ranpo-san yelled at him, but he made Kenji-kun cry and Ranpo-san ended up being the one apologizing… It’s strange hearing him apologize at all. Maybe that’s Kenji-kun’s secondary ability.

I’ll talk to you again tomorrow. Take care.

Hi, Chuuya-san, it’s me again. How was your day? ...Well, you’re probably listening to these all at once, so I’ll just hope you’re having a good one right now.

Today Kunikida-san almost threw Dazai-san into a wall. I figured you’d want to hear that.

I don’t know what kind of work you’re doing over there, but I hope it isn’t too hard. Is it really boring? At least you have some time to do some sightseeing. I don’t know much about the part of Europe you’re in, except that you can miss a turn when you’re driving and accidentally be in another country. Please don’t get lost, Chuuya-san.

I have to get back to work. I’ll call you again soon.

Hello, Chuuya-san, it’s two in the morning right now and I can’t sleep, so since I won’t be waking you anyway, I thought I’d call.

What’s the time zone difference between us right now? Are you sleeping, or are you getting to work already? I’ll check when I actually get up.

Um I think I’ve woken Kyouka-chan I’ll talk to you later-

I’m sorry about that last call. Kyouka-chan is a way lighter sleeper than I thought she was.

Chuuya-san, I hope you’re alright. ...Sometimes I worry that you’re going to get seriously hurt and I’ll only find out about it when you stop answering my calls. If you were hurt somewhere that far away…

Um, that’s depressing, isn’t it. Sorry.

I don’t have a lot of time to call you today, I’ll talk to you again tomorrow.

I think I have your answering machine message memorized by now. Let me try.

‘You’ve reached Chuuya Nakahara. I can’t answer the phone right now because I’m busy or have better things to do than answer you right now, so leave a message.’

...I’m not very good at impressions. Sorry.

I passed a wine display and saw one of your favorites, so I picked it up. When you get back we’ll have to open it to celebrate you safely coming home.

Take care, Chuuya-san.

This is the longest week I’ve had in my life.

Chuuya-san, do you like souvenirs? I’ve never left the country or even gone on any big trips, so I’ve never bought any… N-not that I’m saying you should get me any! I was just wondering what you thought about them! That’s all!

Maybe next time I’ll be the one travelling and missing you while I’m gone. I’ll bring you back something nice.

See you tomorrow, Chuuya-san.

You’ll be home in two hours, but then you have to make your report to your boss and you told me that could take another hour or two. Three at the worst.

I haven’t been able to focus on work all day. I got scolded by Kunikida-san - I haven’t told anyone about your trip, so they just think I’m spacing out for no reason. Now that work’s over I don’t even have anything to try to focus on, so I’m just thinking about you.

I know you’ll want to de-stress when you get home, but please call me soon. Just so I know you’re okay.

See you, Chuuya-san.

Atsushi’s phone rings, jolting him from his reverie. He’s been staring at it for the better part of an hour, and now he nearly drops it trying to pick it up. “H-hello?”

“I heard you missed me.” Chuuya’s voice. He sounds like he’s grinning. “Why don’t you come over?”

Atsushi’s face heats up as he thinks of some of the embarrassing things he said in the messages he left this week, but he can’t possibly say anything but, “I’ll be there in ten minutes!”

It takes him nine. Chuuya is standing outside the apartment building, and can’t even get a word out before Atsushi is hugging him hard enough to nearly knock him over.

Then he’s laughing and hugging back. “I missed you too.”
