Summary: Odasaku delivers a noise complaint to Dazai’s office.
Notes: I'm a sellout for word count, apparently.
Dealing with noise complaints is not a job that Odasaku is unfamiliar with.
The floors and ceilings of the main building are soundproof, but the walls are not; the theory behind that being that you don’t deserve to hear the conversations in your higher-ups’ offices, but those with the same rank as you are fair game. The only exception is Mori’s office: he shares the top floor with the other executives, but can tighten up security around his own office with the push of a button, making him able to eavesdrop all he likes but the executives unable to do the same in reverse.
Speaking of Mori, it’s a complaint from him this time. Odasaku reads over the note he was given one more time to make sure: that’s definitely his signature. It’ll be the first time he’s dealt with anyone on the top floor.
“Zero one, zero two… zero three.” He knocks, firmly, on the door.
There are indeed people being very loud in there. The sounds of groans along with something hitting wood and the occasional object falling off a desk are barely muffled behind the door. Odasaku knocks again, even louder this time.
The sounds stop abruptly.
“Just a second!” Dazai’s voice. Oh, thinks Odasaku.
It takes about two minutes for him to answer the door, and when he does he’s barely decent. His shirt is rumpled and his belt isn’t properly done. Anyone in the organization would know what he’s been doing.
From this angle, Odasaku can’t see exactly who else is in his office. Dazai is very kindly blocking the way.
“Noise complaint,” he says. “From the boss.”
There’s a loud string of curses from inside that identifies the other person as Chuuya Nakahara.
Dazai looks only a little bit embarrassed. “Did he say anything specific…?”
“He said that you were disturbing his attempts at paperwork and that you should either stop having sex in your office or introduce gags,” Odasaku recites, as calm as ever.
That gets Dazai to laugh. “Chuuya, did you hear-”
Chuuya stomps over and pushes Dazai out of the way. He’s not in a much more modest state, but his hat is on, which probably counts for something. “The boss did not say that.”
“Those were his exact words.” Odasaku holds the paper out to Chuuya, who snatches it from him.
After reading the note over, Chuuya’s scowl worsens, and he gives the note back to Odasaku. “Tell him we apologize and it won’t happen again.”
Dazai is still giggling. “Are you sure, Chuuya? That’s what you said last time~”
“I understand,” Odasaku replies. “Is there anything else?”
Chuuya keeps frowning at him for a second, then asks, “How can you say all of this with a straight face.”
“Nothing Dazai does can shock me any longer,” Odasaku says. “It also helps that it has nothing to do with me.”
“It could have something to do with you, if you want,” Dazai says, poking his head in the doorway again. “Chuuya wouldn’t mind a three-”
“At least ask me for permission before you say something like that!”
“I can’t have a threesome with you,” says Odasaku, flatly. “I have to deliver your reply to the boss. A threesome would make me late.”
“Good point,” Dazai says. “Chuuya, we should be working too, can’t let our subordinates make us look bad!”
Chuuya’s scowl just keeps intensifying. “Oh, now you’re concerned about-”
Odasaku shuts the door on them. He plans on cutting most of that encounter out of his report to Mori.
