Summary: Two peaceful moments with combs.
Notes: Could be read shippy.
It’s a rare moment when Kunikida has his hair down, but occasionally Dazai gets to see it out of its usual ponytail in the office. It’s always because of a certain circumstance: for some reason or another, Kunikida didn’t have time to properly comb it earlier, and he’s trying to fix it while on break.
Today, Kunikida is trying to force a comb through his hair when Atsushi speaks up. “Kunikida-san, you’re going to tear your hair out that way.”
“It’s stubborn,” he says with a grunt.
“That’s because you’re doing it completely wrong,” says Dazai, with the hint of a laugh.
Kunikida scoffs. “And you would know better?”
Dazai shrugs. Atsushi hesitates, then asks, “Could I try to brush it for you?”
After a moment, Kunikida says, “Be my guest.”
So Atsushi settles in behind Kunikida with a comb in his hand. Unlike Kunikida, who’d been tugging roughly from his scalp, Atsushi starts at the bottom, taking a small section and combing it out first, gently.
“You’ll pull out less of your hair if you detangle starting from the bottom,” says Atsushi. “Do you usually comb it while it’s wet?”
“Sometimes,” says Kunikida.
Atsushi tsks. “That’s no good. You’ll damage your hair that way, and you have such nice hair, Kunikida-san.”
“It’s a shame his hairstyle is so hideous,” says Dazai. Kunikida shoots him an annoyed look, but other than that, the moment is - peaceful. That’s the word for it.
It reminds Dazai of something, but what...
Ah, right.
Odasaku raises an eyebrow at Dazai when he enters the bar. “Bad hair day?” he asks.
“Wind Ability user,” Dazai says with a groan, settling onto his bar stool. “I like the ‘casually windswept’ look but this is too much, even for me.”
“Do you want me to try and fix it?” When Dazai tilts his head at him, Odasaku produces a comb from his pocket.
“If you want,” Dazai says, with a shrug.
So Odasaku stands behind Dazai and starts combing his hair out. He starts from the bottom, which is weird, but it doesn’t hurt as much as he’d expected when pulling out the tangles.
“Hey, Odasaku, where’d you learn to comb hair that way?” Dazai asks, eyes fluttering shut. It’s soothing, both to have his hair combed so carefully and to listen to Odasaku’s voice in reply.
“Sakura taught me,” Odasaku says, with a tone of voice that suggests he might be smiling. “She says you’ll pull out less of your hair if you start from the bottom, since you’re further from the roots. She’s very smart.”
“She sounds that way.” Dazai starts to hum as Odasaku works his way up.
When Odasaku has all the tangles out, he keeps running the comb gently through Dazai’s hair. “Your hair is nice.”
“Yours isn’t bad either. That ‘I just got out of bed like this’ look suits you,” says Dazai. Odasaku doesn’t try to argue.
The moment is peaceful, broken only by Ango’s arrival. “...Am I interrupting something?”
