Summary: Inner Atsushi asks for advice on what to give Outer Atsushi for their birthday.
Notes:

What does the inner Atsushi get his outer half for his - their, technically - birthday?

Normally, inner Atsushi hates to ask for help with anything. It’s a blow to his pride. But his strengths are in fighting and stabbing, not in giving presents. For the sake of his other half, he’ll at least try to listen to advice.

“He likes cats,” Kyouka suggests, fiddling with one of his rabbit charms. “There’s no end to cute cat-themed merchandise you might buy him.”

“We share our funds,” Atsushi says. “I’m not buying him gifts with his own money.”

“That is a problem… I’m afraid I don’t have any ideas, then.”

“Throw him a party,” says Yoshikawa. “Or do something fun together with him. A shared experience is worth more than any present!”

Atsushi rolls his eyes. “He hates being the center of attention, and there’s nothing we can do together when only one of us can be in control at a time. That’s how split personalities work, fool.”

“Oh yeah… huh. Wait, who are you calling a fool?”

“Write him something?” Saisei says, petting one of the stray cats that hangs around the library. “You’re as much a writer as he is, you should be able to come up with a poem.”

“We’re prose writers, and by the time I can finish writing a story, his birthday will have passed,” Atsushi replies. He’s unable to resist giving the cat a scritch behind the ears.

“It doesn’t have to be anything long. Even a short something would make him happy, if it’s from you.”

Outer Atsushi wakes up on his birthday with a note in his hand.

It reads:

Atsushi,

Happy birthday. I love you.

-From your other self

Atsushi clutches the note to his chest. It’s the best birthday present he’s ever received.
