This is the plain truth: no one really wants to die.
Death is the eternal mystery. No one truly knows what awaits after the end of life, not even the greatest of alchemists, and it is impossible to long for something you know nothing about.
Dazai knows nothing about death, even after it has come to him once, but he knows life. He knows the pain of it, the shame, the fire that nips at his heels no matter how far or fast he runs. He fears life more than he fears the unknown.
No sane man would do otherwise.
