Notes:

”…Hm, is this some sort of joke? I mean, just thinking about it rationally, there’s too much I could retort with… Just what intention do you have in giving me this? …Ah, well… maybe it’s rude to ask. I’ll go ahead and accept. Thanks.”

What did Nanashi mean by giving Mikado Love Chocolate, anyway?

Of course he thought Mikado would like it. Nanashi has a sweet tooth, therefore his older self has one too. In that sense, it’s the same as any of his gifts: he hoped it would make Mikado happy, and bring them closer.

But if that’s all he wanted, he could give any kind of chocolate. He’s not so oblivious that he doesn’t know the meaning of this chocolate in particular.

He could say he’s practicing self-love. It’s still easier to love Mikado than it is to love himself, but it’s close enough that surely Misane would approve.

But, again, there are other gifts for that. Something that’s more appropriate to give your family. (He doesn’t know what you’re supposed to give your future self.)

Maybe Nanashi was trying to fluster Mikado. He gave the same neutral response to all his other gifts, so of course Nanashi would become bolder to get a reaction. He’d consider himself accomplished if he could make Mikado blush.

That’s a normal thing to think about your cousin and future self, right?
