Summary: Junael doesn't see a reason to stay in the human world longer than he has to. Devin disagrees.
Notes:
Junael doesn't often visit the human world.
He doesn't have the same fascination for it Maeve does. It's true that it's very different from Erebus, and when she speaks on all those differences it makes her face light up in a way that's almost hard to look at…
But Erebus isn't so bad. He knows the rules there, much better than he knows the rules of the human world. The human world is unpredictable, and it leaves him out of sorts to interact too much with humans.
None more so than one Devin Wilshire.
"You just got here," Devin says, louder than is necessary or advisable. "Don't tell me you're going back before having any fun!"
"I don't need to have fun," Junael says. "I've completed my work here, so there's no reason to stay."
"No reason - Earth's full of great things! Like coffee shops, and concerts, and laser tag!"
"Laser tag." Junael knows what those words mean individually, so: "That sounds incredibly foolish and dangerous."
"Not like, laser lasers - you should try it with me. You'll have a great time if you just let yourself do something besides work-"
"Why are you doing this?" Junael asks. "What do you want from me? I already told you I'm not teaching you any more spells." And Devin had been loudly disappointed but hadn't brought it up again, so what is he angling for now?
"I want to hang out," Devin says.
Junael searches his memory for a human activity called 'hangouting' and finds nothing. Imps don't take the same exams about fitting in that succubi do. "Demons don't hang out."
"Well, maybe they should! Because it sounds like being a demon is pretty boring."
Boring is just another way of saying calm and predictable. Junael likes those things about Erebus and has no desire to change them.
"If I 'hang out' with you once, will you leave me alone afterwards?" he asks.
"Sure, but you won't want me to," Devin says. "I'll make sure you have so much fun that you realize everything you're missing."
Junael highly doubts that, but perhaps this is one of those rare occasions where Devin's confidence is founded in something. They'll see.
