Notes: Part of "these eldritch horrors are beyond YOUR comprehension. i get them though."

Evangeline picks three books from the shelves of the Floor of Philosophy and opens them at the same time. From her desk, Binah sips her tea and watches the light of the books take her.

About three hours later, Netzach stops by. "…I'm a little afraid to ask if you've seen Evangeline."

"She is attempting to seduce the Beast of the Black Forest," Binah says. The books of the three birds are still open on the floor, undisturbed.

"Of course she is. Why wouldn't she be? It's not like that's an incredibly stupid idea or anything." Netzach drags a hand down his face. "How long has she been in there?"

"Long enough to have found it receptive. That creature prefers to kill swiftly, if that were its aim." Her voice is as even and unperturbed as ever. "Are you concerned for her?"

He considers denying it, but lying to Binah is usually more revealing than just telling the truth. "Even if you don't die permanently in books, that doesn't mean the pain isn't real. I know I'm the last person who can tell her to value her own safety a little more, but…"

"You worry. And at the same time, you envy her her passion, the zest for life that you yourself lack."

"…I'm fine with not having passion if 'passion' means 'being into Abnormalities'." Even the cuter ones, which Apocalypse Bird definitely is not, he can't imagine himself spending more time around than necessary.

Binah's lips quirk up just slightly. Before she can say anything, the books glow once more and Evangeline pops out of them. She's a mess - hair mussed, clothes ripped by talons - but she has a satisfied smile on her face. "Oh, hey, Netzach. Sorry, were you waiting around for me?"

"Not long." He can't stand to talk to Binah for more than five minutes at a time.

Evangeline glances to Binah, sees her smiling, and winces. "Sorry. I'll, uh, pick a better floor next time."

"Come back whenever you like," Binah says. Evangeline tugs on Netzach's arm to near drag him to the floor's exit.

His eyebrows raise. "Oh, Apocalypse Bird is fine, but Binah scares you?"

"Yeah! Obviously she's way scarier!"

"…I want to argue that, but I really can't."
