Notes:
There are some things you can't really prepare for as a Master, but there are also some problems you can figure you'll have to deal with eventually.
For example: mana transfers. There's no way around them in the most dire situations, and it's happened a couple times at this point, but they don't get any less embarrassing and awkward. More than that, though, there's some Servants she'd genuinely rather die than do anything intimate with. She's been lucky so far, but today her luck has run out.
"Mm… Can we take a nap soon, Mommy?" Jack sounds exhausted from the entrance to their impromptu shelter, and Ritsuka doesn't blame her: she's been fighting off enemies by herself for a few hours now with barely breaks. Contact with the Shadow Border still hasn't come back yet, and they don't know where Mash is.
"Not yet. Sorry, Jack." She's tired, too, and aware that she's about to be a lot more tired. But better tired than dead, as always.
Last Valentine's Day, Nikitich gave her a dagger. Ritsuka keeps it with her whenever she goes out on missions. She stabbed a wyvern in the face when it got too close to her once and felt like kind of a badass. It's made of Damascus steel, which even Ritsuka knows is really good as far as knives go.
She also has a plastic cup with a spout. It's pink and has a picture of Minnie Mouse on it.
Ritsuka unscrews the top of the cup, then shallowly slices her arm open. It drips blood into the sippy cup, as Ritsuka bites her lip and tries not to alert Jack as to what she's doing with sounds of pain. Compared to some of the other wounds she's suffered, this isn't nearly as bad, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt like hell.
She's really not sure how much blood is enough, but after the cup's full enough to actually drink from, she screws the cap back on. She takes a quick moment to bandage her arm before approaching Jack.
"Here, I, uh… made you lunch?"
Jack looks back at her, then at the cup. "Oh, it's cute! Thank you, Mommy!" She happily accepts it and starts slurping down blood.
"No problem." Oof, that was probably too much blood, Ritsuka feels a little lightheaded… But at least Jack looks like she's enjoying it.
"That was yummy, I feel much better! I'm ready to start stabbing things again."
"That's great to hear." She's not even exaggerating. "I'm gonna sit down for a bit, okay?"
"Mmmkay."
It takes about an hour, but Mash does find them before another transfer is necessary. Ritsuka waves weakly while Jack tells her how good a job she did protecting Mommy and how Mommy even made her a special lunch for good girls.
Not even a week later, Ritsuka finds herself alone with a singular Servant to protect her again. At least this one's an adult, but… "Uh-"
"Give me the blood cup," says Yu.
"Are you sure, it's kind of meant for kids and I don't want to embarrass you-"
"Give me the cup for babies or I will just let you die instead."
