Notes:

"Jonathan, summoned as an Archer." The young man in the summoning room smiles warmly. "I don't have much of a legend compared to other heroes you've called, but I'll do everything I can to help your cause, Master."

"Thank you for coming," Ritsuka says. Behind her, Roman is making a strange expression, but she doesn't notice. "Welcome to Chaldea. Let me show you around-"

"Jonathan!!" A passing David near flings himself at Jonathan, sweeping him up into an embrace. There's a lecture on the tip of Ritsuka's tongue, but Jonathan is hugging David back just as tightly. "My friend, my heart, you've finally arrived!"

"I didn't mean to make you wait so long," Jonathan says. He glances at Ritsuka over David's shoulder. "I apologize, but do you mind if I speak with my friend first?"

"Not at all," Ritsuka says. She's not sure she could separate the two without a Command Spell, and she isn't going to try. "Take all the time you need."

Jonathan doesn't have much of a presence in Chaldea, by himself. He trains diligently in the simulator, he shows up for meals and thanks the cooks, and he doesn't make a spectacle. Considering some of the personalities Ritsuka's summoned, she's grateful for every Servant who ends up being on the quieter side.

The bigger change is David. Whereas previously he's had to be nagged to help with farming materials ("why couldn't it be farming sheep?"), now he drops everything the moment Ritsuka calls for him. There's not been a single mention of Abishag, nor any propositions to the female Servants since Jonathan arrived.

Which is great! Ritsuka's not complaining or anything. It's just also kind of weird?

"Ssso. David." She clears her throat. "I've noticed you've been on your best behavior lately?"

"I don't know what you're talking about. This is how a king should conduct himself," says David, with a straight face.

"Uh huh. And it's a coincidence that you started acting like a king right when Jonathan showed up."

David deflates. "You haven't. Told him about some of my… let's call them indiscretions, have you?"

"Nope." She's absolutely not risking that spilling the beans might make David decide that there's no reason to keep behaving. "So he doesn't know?"

"I indulged in my vices more in my later years. When I knew Jonathan, I was in the prime of my life, both as a soldier and as a servant of the Lord. Of course I'm not ashamed of how things turned out, but…"

In other words, he was a better person back then and he doesn't want Jonathan to know how bad he got. Makes sense. "As long as you keep doing your best like this, I won't tell him about the Abishag stuff."

"Thank you, Master. You have no idea how grateful I am," he replies.

"It's no big deal." Ritsuka rests her chin in her palm. "You really want to impress him, huh? You must be really good friends."

"…Something like that."
