"It is an endlessly fascinating phenomenon when a Servant remembers their prior summonings," Gilles says, entirely unprompted. "The laws of the Throne of Heroes should not allow for it, yet some Heroic Spirits have been so profoundly affected by their experiences that the nature of their very soul is forever changed!"

"Huh," says Ritsuka. "Do you remember being summoned before?"

"Indeed I do. Memories full of joy, of sorrow, of rage, and of love."

Ritsuka's eyebrows shoot upwards. "Love?"

"Does it shock you? Even I am capable of loving and being loved in return. My Master before you was my partner in all things; his passion spurred mine to ever greater heights. He knew nothing of religion, yet he spoke truth to the nature of God and the world that would put any prophet to shame! No other has understood me so well before or since." He sighs fondly, clearly replaying nostalgic memories in his mind.

Ritsuka has learned that they cannot possibly come to understand their Servants with Mental Pollution, which they're grateful for right now. Hearing Tamamo or Artoria describe their previous Masters, they felt inadequate… but there was never any hope of them being the perfect Master for Gilles in the first place. "That's great! I'm really happy you were summoned to him."

It's a good thing when people find love. They choose not to think any more deeply on the matter.
