Rohan left his bag unattended to go check out the area he’s planning to take pictures of next. He left it in the care of Josuke and Koichi, with a stern, “Koichi, don’t let that Josuke mess up my notebooks,” to which Koichi had smiled and nodded while Josuke grumbled something about being completely trustworthy.

No sooner did Rohan leave his range of sight than Koichi opened Rohan’s bag and started rooting through it.

“Koichi, what are you doing?” Josuke asked. This turn of events had not occurred to him.

“Messing with him,” Koichi answered, an even brighter smile on his face. “I’m not going to damage any of his stuff. Act 2!”

Echoes Act 2 appeared at his command, and immediately started leaving words on objects. On Rohan’s cameras, his sketchpads, individual pens… Anything that was inside the bag received a word, though it was difficult for Josuke to tell what they said with the speed Koichi was going through the bag.

He still didn’t know exactly what Koichi was doing when he returned the items to the bag in more or less the same order they’d been in. “Well, I’d better get going so he doesn’t kill me when he finds out. You can tell me how funny it was later.”

“Got it,” Josuke said. “I’ll make sure I survive so I can tell you.”

Koichi was long gone by the time that Rohan returned. “Koichi left?”

“He said he had some stuff to do,” said Josuke. It sounded natural enough to him, and apparently Rohan bought it.

“That’s disappointing. If I knew he was going to leave me with just you-” Rohan’s attention was caught by his bag. “That’s not where I left it. It’s a centimeter to the left.”

It looked the same to Josuke. “Are you sure you’re not just imagining things?”

Rohan scowled at him. “I’ll just go through it and make sure nothing is out of place. If it wasn’t touched, then you have no reason to worry. If it has been...”

Josuke swallowed, but comforted himself with the knowledge that Crazy Diamond and Echoes’ powers were totally different, and Rohan knew that. He couldn’t be blamed for this.

Rohan reached into his bag and tried to pull out the first item, a sketchpad. Tried to, because as soon as his fingers touched it he recoiled, a deep flush rising to his face. “What on-?!” He glared at Josuke. “You put Koichi up to this.”

“I didn’t do anything.” Josuke held his hands up. “I’m not a part of this at all.” Except that he didn’t try to stop him.

“As though Koichi would do something like this on his own!” Rohan scowled, picking up the sketchpad again and setting it aside.

Josuke shrugged. “Hey, what words did he write down? I didn’t get a very good look at them.”

“I didn’t look at that one either, but…” Rohan peered inside of his bag and turned a little more red. “There’s no way that Koichi came up with this himself.”

“What does it say, come on~”

Rohan grumbled and pulled out a camera, which Josuke spotted a lick on before it disappeared and took effect. Rohan’s hands were shaking as he set it aside.

Josuke blinked. “...Oh.”

“‘Oh’ is what you have to say?” Rohan took another look at the bag’s contents without touching anything. “I might as well get this over with as quickly as possible.”

“I’m not sure that’s-”

A group of pens that were too thin for Josuke to make out the words on were grabbed and immediately dropped as Rohan let out a whimper. He picked them up again, quivering as he did so, and put them aside before diving back in for a bottle of hand sanitizer, which he barely brushed with his fingertips before he groaned and had to stop to catch his breath. A breath mint hit the ground and cracked, and Rohan didn’t bother to pick it up.

“Are you okay-”

“I’m almost done,” said Rohan through gritted teeth.

Two old receipts that Josuke assumed he’d forgotten were there caused high noises that he could not keep from escaping his lips. A cough drop increased the volume. The last item, his wallet, had been deliberately placed at the bottom of the pile: it was the one he was guaranteed to need sometime soon and would thus have to go through the rest to get to. Rohan stared at it for a second, bit down on one of his hands, and brushed it with the other.

As soon as it looked like Rohan was back to his senses, Josuke repeated, “I had nothing to do with this.” He started backing away, ready to bolt.

“I believe you,” Rohan muttered, breathing heavily.

Josuke stopped. “What was that?”

“It’s not your style. Based on that, I can only assume that Koichi did this to me on his own.” Rohan narrowed his eyes at him. “That said, I would like a little privacy. Now.”

Josuke didn’t need any further hinting. He ran.

Much later, Koichi asked him, “So, how funny was it?”

“...Less funny, more really uncomfortable,” said Josuke. “How pissed off were you that he dragged you out on that trip?”

“How much do you think?”
