Notes: Super fluff.

After Reficul is done with her important Devil talking with Kcalb, she usually goes straight home, and she usually appears in Kcalb’s immediate vicinity. Thus, it’s impossible for Chelan to catch her on her way to or from their meetings.

Thus, she has to take a more direct route, without the benefit of appearing coincidental.

“You want to talk to Reficul?” asks Kcalb. He’s mostly healed by now, or seems that way to Chelan’s eyes. “Why?”

Chelan tells him, and Dialo repeats, that she seemed like an interesting person and she’d like to get to know her.

“...Interesting is one way to put it.” He looks to Etihw for advice.

Etihw hmms over it. “Reficul’s not completely trustworthy, but if someone’s there with you two, things shouldn’t get out of control. We can tell her you’d like her to visit.”

Chelan chirps happily as Dialo interprets her gratitude.

A few weeks later, a knocking at the door turns out to be Reficul, Wodahs some distance behind her. They’d had no prior warning, and Chelan expresses her surprise and delight.

Reficul tilts her head a little to one side. “I thought I was familiar with most languages used on this world.”

“She says she’s happy to see you, and that we didn’t know you were coming,” says Dialo, from within. “Should I start baking a pie?”

Chelan nods, and lets her inside; Wodahs remains outside, though she invites him in as well. Their accommodations are meager and not fit for a Devil, but she pulls out the most comfortable of the chairs for her.

“I’m afraid I don’t have a schedule,” says Reficul, sitting down, “or I would have warned Kcalb in advance. It simply happened that something came up.”

It’s no trouble, chirps Chelan, and Dialo repeats.

“Thank you.” Reficul glances around the room, before asking, “What did you want to see me for?”

“Chelan wanted to get to know you better,” says Dialo, by the stove. She’s about to chop apples, but it’s easier for her to talk when she’s focusing on chopping. “That’s all.”

“I see.” Reficul doesn’t smile, but Chelan thinks some of the lines on her face soften. “I’m not often invited over just for pleasure.”

Dialo chops up the apples and Reficul doesn’t comment on the force of it. When the pie is done, Dialo sets it down on the table and slices it up for her. “Enjoy,” she says.

Reficul takes a bite of her slice. This time she almost smiles. “Delicious.”

Chelan can tell Dialo’s pleased, even though she says nothing. Their understanding goes both ways.

When she’s done, Reficul taps her fingers on the table. “You wanted to get to know me better? Let’s see…”

Reficul talks about her world: it sounds frightening, but Reficul seems fond of it. She talks about her wife, Sin, her son, Mors, and her lover, Lzet, and she carries a similar fondness for all of them.

She seems like an intimidating person at first, but hearing her talk about the places and people she loves, Chelan isn’t at all afraid of her anymore.

In return, Dialo helps her tell Reficul all about the village, about how Kcalb and Etihw are like family to her (“Wouldn’t that make us siblings?” Dialo asks, and Chelan briefly pulls a grossed out face that Reficul chuckles at,) and about Dialo. Dialo turns red partway through her explanation of how they met and moved in together, and about the time she starts talking about how cute she is Dialo refuses to translate any further.

When Chelan’s run out of things to say, Reficul stands. “Thank you for inviting me. I had a pleasant time here.”

“You’re welcome,” says Dialo, and Chelan nods her agreement.

“Perhaps we’ll meet again,” Reficul replies, and takes her leave.

Chelan thinks she was actually smiling, there.
