Notes: Cute threesomes though.

In the National LIbrary, on the floor where the transmigrated authors live, there is a blanket fort.

This is a new development: Takiji doesn’t remember seeing one here the last time he passed this space. In between then and now, someone’s gathered an impressive amount of chairs and covered them with a large blanket. He peeks inside: there are more blankets and pillows, and there’s a table lamp with its cord sticking out from under the blanket to light up the space.

After a moment, the creator of the fort wiggles out to properly talk to him: Musha with a huge grin on his face. Takiji’d expected this to be the work of Kenji or Nankichi, but Musha being responsible makes sense.

“Takiji! Come join me!”

“I’m not sure…” It looks big enough to fit two, so that isn’t the reason why Takiji hesitates. It’s not that he doesn’t like Musha or want to spend time with him, because he does. It’s just that he’d feel trapped in an enclosed space like that.

“Please? Pretty please?” Musha asks. “It’s a good hiding spot!”

“It’s not.” Takiji knows hiding spots well by now, so he doesn’t think twice about contradicting Musha. “It sticks out in the room, and lots of people walk by here. If anyone were looking for me, they’d check here first.”

“No, it’s great!” Musha replies. His face is set in determination, like he’s made it his life’s mission to get Takiji into this blanket fort. “Because if anyone came to look for you, I’d protect you, so you’d be a hundred percent safe. A hundred and ten percent!”

Takiji doesn’t have an answer to that, or at least, he doesn’t have one that isn’t, “...Scoot over.”

It’s getting late, and Musha isn’t in his room. Naoya had dropped by to chat with him a little before heading to bed, but he hadn’t answered his knocking, and Musha never ignores him without loudly letting him know that he’s ignoring him and exactly why Naoya deserves it. So he’s definitely not there.

He’s probably fine, but Naoya doesn’t feel right without checking the rest of the library for him. If something had happened-

“Shiga!” And then in a much quieter voice, “Oops.”

-nope, he’s fine. Naoya stops in front of the blanket fort. “So this is where you’ve been, huh?”

“It was really fun, especially when Takiji joined me.” Musha is still speaking in hushed tones, and he shifts to show Naoya why: Takiji’s asleep within the fort. The lamp’s off, so Naoya can’t make out his expression too well, but he looks peacefully at rest.

“You’re pretty lucky,” Naoya says, grinning. “I don’t remember the last time Takiji slept anywhere besides his room with the door locked. It’s a special occasion, maybe we should take a photo-”

“No!” Musha says, before remembering to lower his voice again. “No, Shiga, I’ll fight you if you try that. I promised to protect him and I really, really will.”

“I’m just joking.” He wouldn’t betray Takiji’s privacy like that, even if he is adorable. “So, that’s why you haven’t gone to bed yet.”

Musha nods. He looks very serious about his self-assigned duty. “I can’t move from this spot until Takiji wakes up. It wouldn’t be right to betray his trust. But, if I fall asleep, that’s no good either...”

Takiji’s trust is a precious, fragile thing, so Naoya completely understands. “Then there’s only one thing left for us to do.”

Musha tilts his head a little. “What’s that?”

“Scoot over so I can get in too. We’ll sleep in shifts.”

Three people in one blanket fort is a little cramped, but Naoya manages to get inside without jostling Takiji. Waking Takiji and making him go back to his room would make this all simpler for Naoya and Musha, but he’d have to have a heart straight from the Ice Age to wake a peaceful Takiji.

Musha is the one awake when Takiji starts to stir the next morning. He turns to smile brightly at him. “Good morning!”

“Good morning,” Takiji mumbles, rubbing sleep from his eyes. His hand contacts Naoya’s hair when he lets it fall, and he blinks, obviously not sure what Naoya was doing sleeping next to him. “Why…?”

“Well, I was a little worried that I would fall asleep and not be able to protect you properly,” Musha says, “and so Shiga and I decided to take turns keeping watch. That way everyone got to sleep some, and you were still a hundred and ten percent safe like I promised.”

“You could have woken me,” says Takiji, looking guilty for the heinous sin of making Musha and Naoya get slightly less than a full night’s sleep. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you, I’m sorry...”

Musha reaches over and lightly baps Takiji on the forehead with the heel of his hand. It won’t even hurt, but he was saying silly things and Musha had to stop him somehow. “I’d have to be really mean to wake you up when you were sleeping like that. Anyway, I’m honored that you’d trust me enough to sleep in front of me. And, Shiga’s like that too, so it’s not a problem!”

Takiji looks down at Naoya, who’s still fast asleep, and lightly brushes his fingers through his hair. Naoya makes a soft sound of contentment, and Takiji smiles, if only a little.

Musha giggles. “Want five more minutes before I wake him up?”

“...Five more minutes would be good,” Takiji replies. “Thank you.”

He ends up giving them ten. Naoya’s cuter when he’s asleep, and Takiji’s even cuter when he’s genuinely happy, so Musha doesn’t see how he could’ve done anything else.

Besides, it’s more fun to let Naoya wake up on his own with Takiji still stroking his hair, and watch the two of them get super embarrassed about it.

“Takiji~ If we have another sleepover, on purpose this time, will you play with my hair too?”

“...Okay.”
