Summary: What do maguses do at a sleepover? What everyone else does: talk about who they think is hot.
Notes: Everyone thinks Waver is hot and everyone is right.
“I’ve never been to a sleepover,” Gray says while braiding Reines’ hair. “What do you do at them?”
Truthfully, Gray hasn’t been to a sleepover either. Sleeping in the same area as another magus is a laughable idea for anyone without a death wish, even with the number of wards she casts on herself before bed. And since her non-magus friends are nonexistent, she hasn’t experienced this supposed staple of a teenage girl’s life.
Like many bizarre events, this is Flat’s fault.
More surprisingly, it’s Svin’s fault as well. Svin had been lamenting that he couldn’t come near Gray even if he was much better at controlling himself now, and Flat had suggested that if they were both invited to the same thing, it wasn’t breaking the rules - that’s how he was able to attend the same lectures as Gray without problems. So, if Flat threw a sleepover and invited both of them, they could at least talk.
He’d also invited Reines. At first she’d assumed her presence was a method to keep Svin under control, until Flat started babbling on about how glad he was that she came and how much fun they were all going to have.
“I did some research beforehand,” Flat says, painting Svin’s nails pink. “Usually you play video games, so I tried to get Professor Charisma to let us use his apartment, but he said under no circumstances would he let all four of us in his home at the same time.”
“A wise decision on his part,” Svin says, staring at Gray without blinking. He doesn’t seem to have noticed what Flat’s doing.
“Other suggestions were to do each other’s makeup and hair and talk about people we have romantic interests in.” Flat hums thoughtfully. “So Le Chien-”
“Don’t call me that,” Svin snaps, jerking away and smearing his nail polish.
“-compared the Professor and Gray’s smells to steak and perfume,” Flat continues. “Unless it was the other way around? Did you mean the Professor was the perfume?”
Svin scowls, as Gray shrinks back into her hood. She’d just gotten more comfortable with being in the same room as Svin, too. “Of course I meant the steak.”
“Right! But I know for a fact that you really love steak!” Flat points his brush accusingly. “What are your true feelings about Master V?!”
“That doesn’t - erm.” At the other three’s expectant looks - two expectant looks and one confused peeking out from underneath her hood - Svin turns his head. “…The Professor is a very handsome man. Everyone knows that. There’s no point in reading further into that for someone who isn’t even in his age group.”
“Oh? So if you were closer in age, you’d pursue him?” Reines smirks as Svin turns red. “What a tragic story, pining over someone outside your reach.” But better Waver than Gray.
“There’s nothing wrong with being in love with him! Lots of people are! I am too, I think?” Flat turns his smile on Reines. “What about you?”
“Certainly not,” she answers. “His other students may nurse their hopeless crushes, but I far more enjoy tormenting my dear brother than mooning over him.”
“Miss Reines…” Gray is barely audible. “You asked him to give you a child, though…”
Why has Gray, of all people, betrayed her like this.
“For the branch family! Only that!” Reines splutters. “Of course I wouldn’t sleep with him myself, don’t be ridiculous!”
“Your body temperature wouldn’t be rising if-” Flat starts, before Svin shoves a hand over his mouth.
Reines considers murdering Flat, then remembers why it hasn’t worked the last five times someone’s tried to murder him. Instead she turns her ire back onto: “And you, Gray? What do you think of him?”
Gray startles. “Well, I… I’m grateful to him as my master…”
“But is he attractive?”
Apparently, it takes Gray a moment to think about it. “…Everyone says so, so he must be? But I’ve never really felt that way about anyone, so… I’m sorry.”
Ugh, this isn’t even fun. Reines pats Gray on the shoulder. “It’s fine. Honestly, I should be relieved that his apprentice is the one person in our class who isn’t attracted to him.”
Flat looks like he wants to say something, but Svin hits him before he can get more than syllable out. “Ow - hey, you’ll ruin your nails like that! After I worked hard on them too!”
“My nails? …Why did you paint them pink of all things?!”
“They complement your eyes! What do you think, Gray?”
“Eh? Me? Um, they’re fine… either way, I think…?”
Sleepovers are not a completely awful experience, Reines concludes, but she’s in no hurry to attend another one any time soon. Especially if Flat is the one hosting.
