"So, okay, you call them 'drones', but they also work to gather nutrients, which is why in our files they're called 'worker bees'," says Evangeline, one leg crossed over the other. "In the facility you could make new bees from spores without any assistance, which suggests that drones in the classical sense aren't necessary."

Queen Bee blinks at her. Or perhaps winks, it's hard to tell when she only has one eye. "Is the distinction that important?"

"It's important to me! If they're your harem I'm not going to hit on them in front of you, that's a dick move." Evangeline rubs the back of her neck. "Also, drones traditionally die after mating, and even though I know it's not permanent in a book I'm still really not into snuff."

"You are a fascinating creature, Evangeline," says Queen Bee, smiling with both mouths. "You would make an excellent subject, to reward my drones with for their hard work."

"I can't be a real citizen of your kingdom, but I'd make a hell of a mercenary."
